Linda Ruth has been teaching art to 1st-8th graders at Open Door Christian Academy for the past 30 years. She also taught K-6th grade at Phil-Mont Christian Academy for 10 years, and retired in 1995 to give birth to her firstborn son Jacob Steven. In August of 1996, she was blessed with her second son, Josef Vernon. She has also served as adjunct professor at both Philadlphia Bublical University (1998-2009) and presently at Arcadia University, teaching "The Artist in the Community", a course she developed for the Global Connections program. She works at four area nursing homes bringing her "Art from the Heart" program to the elderly. Through the use of loving hands-on art projects and art history, the creativity, which is still very much alive within these often neglected beautiful souls, is awakened and nurtured through the creative process. She is often accompanied by her sons and students to share in the joy of the intergenerational dynamic that blesses both young and old! Linda has received 4 Who's Who Among American Teachers awards over the span of her career and the Spruance - Daumier Award for excellence in art from Beaver College in 1981. She has received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting and a Master of Education from Beaver College along with a K-12 teaching certification in Art Education. Her photography business, "Peek-A-View" specializes in the fine art of photographing children, life and love! Whether it is a newborn or newlyweds, subjects are juxtaposed creatively with nature, architecture and unique objects of interest and beauty. The results are home-spun, down-to-earth images intermingled with a fine art flair, reflecting sophisticated compositions and often playful interactions between the subject and the environment. Through a loving lens, Linda hopes to offer photographs that are works of art to be cherished by family and friends for generations to come. Over the last decade, Linda's photography has taken her to numerous third world countries. Out of those lessons and experiences, she has developed a body of work entitled "The Color of Poverty." The intention is to educate and illuminate young and old to the stunning suffering and unique dignity of the least fortunate members of society. The work also helps to instill a spirit of gratitude and service in individuals with a heart to ask, "How can I help?" |
